I just this morning read the current issue of the Amboy Guardian and I am a bit mortified to say the least. While I am pleased that my public remarks were acknowledged in your front page story, in the Sept 21 issue, regarding South Amboy 9-11 Memorial, I do think its unfortunate that what you published may have misrepresented what I actually stated. After my remarks, your reporter on the scene said to me that she could not fully hear what I said so that afternoon I sent you the appended email in which I reiterated that at "..the time I was serving in the Giuliani Administration as (acting) Commissioner of the Dept of Information Technology & Telecommunications and that I remain forever indebted to a great team of dedicated public servants who supported the recovery of telecommunications assets which enabled City government to effectively function both during and after the horrific disaster of 9/11..." The story you published erroneously implies that I was present at the disaster "site for 3 weeks".. "..and the struggle to rescue as many people as possible..." when I in fact I clearly stated that during that 3 week period, and for well after, I led the telecommunications recovery activities from my agency's Data Center facilities at Metrotech, in Brooklyn. While I did mention during my remarks that my agency had resources and staff "..next to the towers.." and that we did physically enter the disaster site on several occasions, I stated that "..we were emotionally frustrated that we could not directly assist in the rescue efforts so we did what we knew how to do best and to repair telecommunications facilities....". I would ask you to set the record straight since there were a great many heroes involved in that horrific crisis and the many who perished are also heroes, but I did NOT imply and do not claim to be one of them. I merely described what I did and could do in the course of my public service.
